Albert Einstein was a German-born Jewish theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate who developed the theory of relativity. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. His work is also renowned for its influence on the philosophy of science.
- In 1939, Einstein signed a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt warning that Nazi Germany might be developing an atomic weapon. This letter prompted the U.S. government to start the Manhattan Project. Later, he expressed regret about the bomb’s use.
